CD reviews Working at CFXU (www.cfxu.ca) we get in a lot of new cd's and now they get me to review the punk ones and suggest (in my opinion) the best tracks for air play. I knwo many people may disagree with my opinions but you can all fuck off. |

NOFX - The War on Errorism This is a band I never cared for all that much, despite Fat Mike being a useless sack of shit this is a decent album and to some point redeems itself for the shitty stuff the band has put out lately. The one thing I admire is their bluntness in stating the truth, there is no playing on words or reading between lines, it's all direct, potent and true, not caring who they offend in the process......too bad its in gay vocals. best tracks: 5) shes nubs 6) mattersville 9) anarchy camp 11) we got two jealous again 12) 13 stitches |
Dropkick Murphys - Sing Loud, Sing Proud Not a new release at all but requires a review. This is an amazing album start to finish; saturated with celtic flavour in sing along anthems while staying true to their obvious skinhead roots. It's one of the few albums I have ever picked up and can honestly enjoy listening to entirely. It captures the essence of a fading culture with a firm stand and patriotic grip, covered in the blood of the working class. Something they unfortunitly didn't carry on in their most recent album of this year Blackout. best tracks: all |

Ripcordz - What if they had a revolution and nobody came This is a good Punk album, no doubt. The problem is they lack diversity in their sound, by the fifteenth song it becomes monotonous, kinda like listening to too much of Blanks 77, Agent Orange, etc. However, their lyrics aren't bad except for their insistence on asserting their identity of being a punk which gives me a bad Pan-Canadian version of the Casualities. You know it's better to be told you're a cool person rather than telling everyone how cool you are. Even though I'm carving them up they are a good band, excellent asthetic style and represent the Canadian scene quite well. best tracks: 1) X 4) Ian starts it 11) Baby is waiting at home 13) Weekend punks 15) Girls in the Pit |

Anti-Flag - The Terror State This album is political like almost everything I've ever heard by the band, and honestly I hate politics. This time they go so far as to dedicate every other song to President Bush and his foreign endevors, not to mention including an anti-Bush cut out for "mass distribution" through photocopying ( I guess they think killing innocent people is bad but frivelessly depleting the worlds natural resources is okay), very clever indeed, too bad you have to cut apart what is supposed to hold the cd. Anyway the album is good, it's catch and raises some good points however I can't help but think they could be delivered with more power. I mean I'm sure most of you would agree with me when I say the vocals belong in an emo band, enough with the whining. The actual music itself is very good in my opinion, nothing is overdone and the solo riffs are great. Best tracks: 4) Sold as freedom 5) Power to the peaceful 7) You can kill the protestor, but you can't kill the protest 10) Tearing down the borders 11) Death of a nation |

Pennywise - From the Ashes I swear Pennywise gets more gay each year, I think they shoudl just give it up because they really have nothign valuable to say anymore and now most of their tunes suck worse than before. Now they just look stupid and sound stupid, I really hope for their own sake they come out with a new album fast cause this one shoudl have been aborted. There isn't really any catchy tunes or powerful lines throughout the album, a considerable drop in quality since their last album Land of the Free (2001). I feel bad for them though, it's like they just don't care and needed the money so they whipped up some shitty riffs and used a theasaurus without a dictionary. They are really beginning to remind me of Bad Religion and Agnostic Front.......sometimes you just got to give it up. Oh yeah and the artwork in this album sucks. Best tracks: 4) Waiting mind 9) this is only a test 10) punch drunk 12) yesterdays |
